Arrrgh... it turns out that the Aluminium 6061 T6 temper that we're using for the wheelchair that we're fabricating turns into T0 temper upon welding.

What this means is that the welded joints will be about five times weaker than the rest of the chair. This necessitates a major redesigning of the whole frame to ensure that it doesn't fail. Mad

Neither our research nor advice from the dear old prof and the lab tech told us anything about this. We only knew about it after conferring with another two lab technicians earlier this morning. Mad

Well... not quite. The basic design remains the same.

It's the CAD that's gonna kill us. With having to increase the outer diameters of the tubes, Solidworks is gonna give us hell.

And we have to balance the dimension increase with the increase in weight. There's a weight limit that we have to adhere to at all costs.

why not use joints instead of wielding? or is that like a minus on designs, i remember something like that.
